UGANDA: 10 Interesting Facts You Didn't Know
1. Rolex is a delicacy.
You’ve probably heard of the saying, Ugandans don’t wear a Rolex, they eat it! It is absolutely true, what we do with the Rolex is, roll it up and straight to the mouth. So here’s is the difference between the international Rolex and the Ugandan Rolex. In Uganda, we don't wear Rolex, we eat it.
2. Home to Iddi Amin.
One of Uganda's biggest exports is it's former president Iddi Amin who ruled the country from 1971-1979. He named himself the conqueror of the British Empire and he's also most famous for expelling Asian from the country in order to give back the Ugandan economy to Ugandans.
3. Equator crosses through Uganda.
Earth’s equator is an imaginary line dividing the North and South hemispheres. There are only a few countries that the equator runs through, including Ecuador and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Uganda, the equator is located 75 km south of Kampala, where you can purchase memorabilia and watch cool equator water experiments.
4. Best African English-speaking Country.
Uganda is known as the number one African country when it comes to the English language. According to a study that was done by the World Linguistic society, it ranked Uganda as the African country with the best accent.
5. Most Entrepreneurial country in the world.
Uganda has the most number of business startups annually though many of these never get to celebrate their one year anniversary.
6. Home to the second-largest Fresh Water lake (Lake Victoria).
Its surface area more than 26,000 square miles, Lake Victoria (named for Queen Victoria) is the biggest lake on the continent of Africa and the globe’s second-largest freshwater lake, trailing North America’s Lake Superior.
7. Uganda has its own time.
You’re probably now wondering which kind of time only belongs to Uganda. I am not talking about the EAT, CAT, or PST time; our time is called “Ugandan time.” International or normal time as many call it is the real-time ( for example if the appointment is at 3 pm, normal time will be at 3 pm).
8. Source of the Nile.
River Nile which is the longest river in the world happens to have its source in Uganda. This river starts from Uganda nad it moves up north to Egypt whee it pours its waters in the Mediterenean sea.
9. Matooke/Banana Republic.
When you travel to Uganda, the most common local food you’ll hear about is Matooke.
10. Safest Country In Africa.
Many tourists that visit this country leave without any problems or incidents.

Today we are excited to present to you some lesser known facts about the beautiful country of Uganda. Officially refered to as the Republic of Uganda, Uganda is a landlocked country located in the East-Central part of Africa, It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. Uganda is relatively small compared to Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. It ranks 33rd in terms of area in Africa and 10th in population. As of 2019, the population was estimated at 44 million, six million less than Kenya, which is twice as large in size. Uganda is a country rich in history and full of lush natural beauty from border to border. However, it often falls under travelers’ radar due to past political conflicts, and the relative difficulty of getting there. 1. Uganda is the most Entrepreneurial country in the world
Shocking Right? I bet if you were asked which countries were the most entrepreneurial in the world you would probably say, China, the United states or even Great Britain, Well sorry to disappoint you, the most Entrepreneurial country in the world is actually Uganda. Uganda, whose economy was devastated by dictatorship a few decades ago, now has the planet's highest proportion of people who have started their own businesses. 28 per cent of its adult population in Uganda started businesses in the last 42 months, which is almost twice as high as any other country in the world. Thailand comes in second place with 16.7 per cent, and Brazil in third with 13.8 per cent. Uganda's success, the report claims, is the result of a huge improvement in communication networks recently, which have linked up different parts of the country and connected it to the rest of the world. In general, developing nations came highest on the list of 73 countries. Of all the developed countries, Australia ranked highest in 29th place, followed by Canada in 30th place.
2. Uganda has the Second Youngest Population in the world
According to the latest World population review, Uganda has the second youngest population in the world right after Niger with 55% of its population below the age of 15 years with a life expectancy of 58 years old. According to reports about two Million Babies are born in Uganda per year. The young population is also accredited to high fertility rates seeing as of 2017, the average female gives birth to 6 children.Also early marriage and lack of family planning is also responsible for the rate birth rate in the country. Uganda is one of the poorest in the world due to the hign dependency rate of the population given the fact that it consist mainly of minors who cannot fend for themselves. Although the Ugandan government is trying to reduce birth rate in the country, their efforts seems abortive.
3. Uganda is the second most populated landlock country in the world
As earlier mentioned Uganda is a landlock country located in the central eastern part of Africa and has a surface area of about 241.083 km square making it the 33rd largest country in Africa and 79th in the world. In terms of population, the country has over 44 million making it the second most populated landlock country in the world after Ethiopia.
4. Yoweri Museveni has been the president of Uganda for more than 3 decades
Uganda has been ruled by President Yoweri Museveni for the past 33 years and from the look of things, he is unlikely to step down anytime soon. Museveni rose to power in 1986 after overthrowing Tito Okello in a military coup. Since then, Uganda has remained politically stable except for the Lord Resistance Army that operates in the jungles of Uganda and the DRC. For the same period, the United States has had six presidents. Museveni rules Uganda with an iron fist and crushes anyone who opposes his regime, though he is not considered a dictator.
5. Uganda is home to the world second Fresh water lake
Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes. The lake was renamed Lake Victoria after Queen Victoria by the explorer John Hanning Speke, in his reports—the first Briton to document it.
